As we celebrate World Reflexology Week I have been thinking about my career in Reflexology and some of the wonderful highlights and memories that I have made over the years.
I have been fortunate to have been asked to speak at various conferences over the years. A couple that stand out are when I spoke about using reflexology to help support babies and children at the Reflexology Association of America Conference in Orlando, Florida and also speaking at the International Council for Reflexologists (ICR) Conference in Taitung, Taiwan. As well as being a guest speaker at conferences around the world I also hosted the UK Reflexology Conference in 2018 and 2019 as well as co-hosting the world’s first Foor Reading Conference in 2018, also here in the UK.
Other highlights of mine include teaching my lovely reflexology students. It has been such a joy to watch you all grow and flourish using the skills that you have all learnt. So many lovely memories, with both my group classes and with my one-to-one mentoring students.
In terms of personal achievement within my career, I published my first book. Holding it in my hand after all the times of trauma from my childhood when dyslexia, dyspraxia and dysgraphia were unheard of and not recognised, I felt incredibly proud. To have my book in my hand and to see the sales from all of my books going all over the world is something that would have been unimaginable to my younger self. I am glad that I ploughed on with the desire to help as many people as possible through the content of all of my books over the years. My desire to help was stronger than my self-doubt that was imprinted at school.
I have also met some wonderful world leaders in reflexology such as Hanne Marquardt, Dwight Byers, Lauran Norman, Father Josef Euguster and so many more!
When I created my Gentle Touch Reflexology for Babies and Children course I was asked to help a charity in Ireland to teach mums, dads and carers to support their little ones. This instructor programme has gone on to help thousands of parents and carers to learn the basics of using Gentle Touch Reflexology for their children.
I have had such a great time over the years during my career in reflexology and I still have a very strong desire to continue helping others via my online courses and the Sue Ricks Academy.
